The Trusted

The Trusted are Southend-on-Sea natives Dave Batchelor, Dale Holt-Mead, Fin Cunningham and Tom Cunningham. Initially starting out in secondary school, the band bonded over their mutual appreciation of a strong melody and atmospheric, edgy pop. Sharing an enthusiasm for 21st century Brit-rock led by the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen and The 1975, as well as classic late '70s new-wave icons such as The Clash and Elvis Costello, The Trusted thrive off their unique fusion of post-punk energy and storytelling.

Self professed "shy guys who make loud music", The Trusted have been making a name for themselves as talented musicians, touring as much as they could before the COVID pandemic hit in March 2020, ",the best part of doing a show is when you reach a certain point in a song where you hit that special frequency and you feel the room lift. It's the best feeling in the world." Additionally, the band enjoys "reaching people", which they say is the best part of making music. "We love it when we hear that our music has touched someone, or made them feel a certain way." There is a strong familial feeling within the band, "we love the idea of 'us against the world'. It's a really powerful thing."

Being shy guys who make loud music has led to them developing their own sound, but the band would say that their biggest problem is having to break through and reach people through the other noises which are out there. They use the internet specifically to reach their fans, "the internet is a beautiful thing because it brings you closer to people."

COVID-19 has meant that the band have had to change how they write their songs, "the creative process involves the whole band. We like to write all together in the same room, jamming behind our instruments - obviously COVID has made that a little bit harder, so over the last few months, we've been sending riffs and song ideas to each other and writing more remotely." On that subject, The Trusted would say that COVID has affected the live music part of the industry the most, "gigs are a big part of the music industry's income, and at the moment, the live world is pretty much dead. The industry will probably find other ways to monetise. It's a scary time... we really miss playing in front of people."

The Trusted have recently released an EP called 'Love and Suicide'. You can find the review below:
