"I do music with no limitation" - Shi Kargo
"I've been in the music industry for ten years, working with different musicians and artists, locally and internationally. It was only about four years ago that I decided to re brand and sell Shi Kargo as a brand and release his music to the world," tells multi-diverse musician Shi Kargo in his exclusive interview with the Music Devotee blog.
"Having to come out as a solo artist and do my own projects [on what is the most difficult thing about recording his music], but listening to 'Talk about Nicolay', 'Foreign Exchange'... 'Cory Henry', just to name a few. These guys manage to bring soul to any genre they produce, drawing you closer to the art of music. Listening to them I grow musically, all the time."
Most artists limit themselves to a genre, or several, but Shi Kargo has a different mantra, "I do music with no limitation." There is a brief pause in the conversation before he explains how he writes his music, "I only work on a song when I have ideas in my head. And most of the time, I know who I need to have on vocals for a particular song I am working on."
The released version of 'About You' is the second version, but Shi Kargo believes it is the better of the two attempts. "This was the second attempt of us producing, writing and recording the song. The first idea got lost when my hard drive crashed and we lost everything we had done. Frustrated as we were, the song was hot, and I had to start producing the song again; I still had the drum pattern in my head and the guitar melody along with it and the bass groove. Once I was done, I called Garth to come. He did 100x greater the second time. Generally, the second attempt came out even greater and that was the birth of 'About You'." This is the duo's first single released together, despite doing "a couple of songs together producing and writing, but it was for other artists and not our own projects." When speaking about Garth Brown, Shi Kargo said, "a super vocalist and a genius music writer. I always have trust when I do work with him. When I first created 'About You', I knew that it was for Garth Brown and I knew he would do justice to it - and he did just that. So I created the idea and shared it with him, and he loved it and turned it into what it is now. We have done other projects together, so we always share ideas with each other like that."
But the Coronavirus pandemic has had an impact on how the song was recorded, "the song was delayed a couple of times.The making, the recording and the admin after, and putting the song in stores... everything was just slow. But I am glad that we are here. This song is ready and blazing!"
