'Rocketman' Film Review

05/22/2019

Rocketman. A song by Elton John, with lyrics written by Bernie Taupin, and also a soon-to-be award winning film directed by Dexter Fletcher.

Upon entering the cinema tonight, I immediately felt as though there was an atmosphere. The seats were filled with people of all ages; with people as young as myself, and others who were probably older than my nan. I think that just this fact alone really goes to show what good music can do, and how it spans across the generations - good music, Elton John, and Taron Egerton, brought me closer to not only my family tonight, but also countless other fans of Elton John, whether young or old, who raced to theatres today - on the first day of its official release - to watch the epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Elton Hercules John.

The performance of Taron Egerton as Elton John was amazing - I had never seen such a performance, and Taron Egerton is undoubtedly talented.

Without spoiling the movie for those who have yet to see the eclectic film, I just want to say that I was blown away.

Egerton sang all of the songs for the film, and gave an astounding performance of a legend, which resulted in a nail-biting, thought-provoking, rollercoaster ride of emotions from start-to-finish.

From the beginning, the audience is drawn into the young Reginald Dwight's life, slowly learning how he became the man that he is today - Elton John. Through a clever use of music, lyrics, and dancing, every second is one that the audience wants to get up and dance to.

Every song, you know. Every word, you mouth. The film was truly deserving of the four minute standing ovation which it received at the Cannes Premier on 21st May 2019. Rocketman is truly an experience that I will never, ever forget.
