Julia Baird - 'Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon'

12/08/2020

Julia Baird was John Lennon's younger half-sister. They shared the same mother, but had different fathers. In her book, 'Imagine This', she tells of her life with the legendary musician.

It is a wonderful book. Deeply touching and personal, it gives an insider's view of his young life, and a little into his later years. The way that Baird writes is heartbreaking, and the trauma which she faced in her early years brought me to tears multiple times... there seems to be a recurring pattern with the family and motor-related accidents.

I found it so interesting to find out more about things which John Lennon spoke about over the years in interviews and his songs, and which always seemed so personal to him. Julia really reveals all in this book, 'Imagine This', and it is so difficult to read in parts because of the pure emotion and feeling behind every word. It is obvious that a large part of herself was invested into this book.

It was truly a raw retelling of John Lennon's childhood and early years, as told by somebody who knew him as well as I think anybody could have. An experience, undoubtedly. A tale from Penny Lane in Liverpool to Kenwood in Weybridge, and across the country. Across the pond even - in some places to New York - but ending in Liverpool.

'Imagine This' by Julia Baird is a book which I would recommend to anybody who wants to know the truth about John Lennon and his childhood, to everybody who is a fan of the lauded musician, and to those who have an interest in incredible stories, and people who changed the world.
