'Judy' Film Review

10/19/2019

Last weekend, I went to watch the newest biopic blockbuster; 'Judy', documenting the life of one Judy Garland, a legend in Hollywood and indeed, across the world, for her roles in many films - perhaps most famously as Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz (1939).

The film itself is a masterpiece, as good as Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), or Rocketman (2019). Renée Zellweger is unrecognisable in the role, and I found myself on the brink of crying many times throughout the movie, constantly having to remind myself that it was just an actress that I was watching, and not the true lady herself.

The customers were beautiful... no! Stunning. The costumes in the film really are stunning, and all of the actors and actresses have done such a fantastic job of becoming their character; it's as if you're really watching Judy Garland on the stage, with her children, with her husband, Mickey Deans.

With so many touching moments throughout the almost two-hour film, it is hard to pick just one scene which really stands out... though I think that for me, it is the last one... the final one.

"You won't forget me, will you?... promise you won't."

We won't, Judy. We never have, and we never will.
