Inklings

05/26/2019

I went to go and see Inklings with my friend, on 22nd March 2019. We left school at lunchtime, and went back to mine to get changed before my mum dropped us to the train station.

We were excited, obviously. Not only would we be experiencing an up-and-coming artist perform, but we'd also been told that we could interview him - and on top of that, we would be seeing our 'concert buddies' again - we hadn't seen them since October!

As soon as we got off of the train however, I began to complain. I was hungry (as usual). So we went in search of a 'Maccers' (or McDonalds to everybody who doesn't go to our school).

When we found the McDonalds, we ordered food, ate it and then hurried off to the venue.

Okay, anybody who knows me is aware that I can't read a map. But then, neither can Eadie, so it took us almost twenty extra minutes to find the venue - and when we did, we found that there was only one person in the line ahead of us. By that time, it was about four o'clock, and the doors were supposed to open at seven.

We waited in line, talking to the others who were waiting, and eventually talking with the opening band members who were having a cigarette outside - and Kier even came out for a while!

At six o'clock, Eadie and I went inside to interview Kier. We were nervous - we were about to talk to one of our idols, and it was going to be awesome!

And it was. Kier Kemp is one of the nicest, most down-to-earth guys I've ever spoken with, and it was a pleasure to meet him and to speak with him. We learnt a lot, and Kier got to ask us some questions too.

We then went back outside to wait with our friends. It was nearing the time that the doors were going to open, and everybody around us (including ourselves) was buzzing with excitement and anticipation.

Finally, the doors opened...

The opening band, 'Thousand Thoughts' were a great act. Their singer, Ethan, with his bright pink hair, and eye-widening vocal range, was hard to ignore, and even harder to dislike. What a great way to start the performance. I enjoyed all of their set, and pre ordered their debut EP as soon as I had a decent wifi coverage.

And then Kier Kemp, who is Inklings, came on with the others who were playing the instruments with him. My God. What a performance. Before the first song was even over, I had lost myself in the music, and everything that I had previously been thinking was swept away. I was amazed.

And then Hannah, from Creeper, came on, and performed a cover of one of my favourite songs, 'A Little Time' by The Beautiful South, and I just about lost it. It was, without a doubt, the best song of the night, and an experience which I will never forget.

Thank you to Kier, Inklings, Thousand Thoughts, Hannah, and the staff working at the venue and with Inklings to make this night unforgettable for myself, Eadie, our friends, and the rest of the audience.
