Indistinction, a self-proclaimed 'aggressive-metal band' from Hertfordshire were kind enough to answer some questions which I sent to them.
Here are the questions and their answers, and I thank the members of the band for taking the time to reply. I'll attach a link to one of their performances - I hope you enjoy their music as much as I did!
1) Introduce yourselves. Give your names, role in the band and one random fact about yourself
Joe Lyons, frontman/guitarist/Vocalist. I love movies, and my favourite film is Django Unchained.
Ryan Colley, I play bass and provide backing vocals in Indistinction. My fact is that I can also play guitar and drums.
Alfred Gubby, I play lead guitar and do backing vocals. One random fact is that I like to cook various styles of food.
My name is Jake Harrop and im the drummer for Indistinction. 1 random fact about me is that I like olives.
2) What musicians or artists have been your biggest influences and why?
I'd like to say that definitely in the songwriting aspect it'd be Sepultura. The mix of Thrash/Death/Hardcore is really the sweet spot in my opinion, and whenever I'm down on inspiration I'll watch the "live in Barcelona" live DVD. I saw them live 2 years ago and it's still the best energy I've seen at a gig. Ever. (JOE)
3) If you could have tea with anybody in the world, living or dead, who would it be, why and what would you say to them?
Chuck Schuldiner of Death, no doubt. That guy is my hero. I'd tell him how great his music is and probably just grovel the whole time, haha. I'd probably ask him how on Earth he never wrote a bad song in his life. Chuck is God! (JOE)
4) What is your favourite part of being in a band?
My favourite part has to be either the creative process where we come together and jam/write new material, or playing live shows. (RYAN)
5) What is your favourite part of touring/doing shows?
The fan interaction. It's always amazing to see people jamming out to your music and enjoying what you poured so much time and effort in to. I also love seeing the pit open up, brings a smile to my face. Also, being on stage is like a new level of freedom for me, I feel at home, like I'm meant to be there. (RYAN)
6) What is the biggest problem regarding your music that you have had to overcome so far?
The biggest problem I've had to overcome/still struggle with is age. No one wants to host a band with any underage members for 2 reasons. Ignorance and the inability to. Some people are very ageist and are quick to judge/deny a musician because they're 18. So you've kinda gotta avoid telling them your age at all costs until they've heard your material. That way they can't be so quick to shut you down. But then again. Some venues can lose their license for hosting underage bands. So that's understandable. (ALFRED)
7) Describe your sound
Our sound is a kind of melting pot of the large amount of bands I draw influence from. There's some death metal, Thrash, Groove, speed and even some hardcore I think. We've reluctantly called it "aggressive metal" but I think no other words really come to mind to describe it. I think that's a good thing as the music I write really doesn't fit neatly in a box. 8) What do you enjoy most about being a musician?
The creative freedom. If I'm feeling an emotion, I can use music to express myself in ways words can't. It's amazing. (RYAN)
9) Please explain how you interact with and respond to fans
I talk to the fans as if I've known them all my life. Like they're my best friends. It's almost like a special connection because without them; you wouldn't be able to keep on going. So, I treat them just as I would like to be treated. Of equal value. (ALFRED)
