I Met Bob Geldof?!
I went to watch my mum graduate university today - I was so immensely proud of her that I didn't notice one of my idols sitting about twenty rows in front of me, right in front of the stage.
I actually wouldn't have known unless I hadn't seen the woman in front of me updating her Facebook status: 'At (Daughter)'s graduation - Bob Geldof in attendance!'
And so I looked for him, and saw him. My heart beat rapidly in my chest - there he was, the man who had (along with Midge Ure) created Live Aid, and who'd raised more than £150 million for the famine in Ethiopia. He was also in a band called The Boomtown Rats, who are perhaps most famous for their song 'I Don't Like Mondays', released in 1979.
At the end of the ceremony at the reception, Mum and me went up to him to ask for a photo.
He was so nice, and also signed an autograph for me. I briefly told him about a project that I want to do about Live Aid, and that I would like to speak to him about it - he took some contact information from me, and said that he'd be in touch... Bob Geldof told me that I could do anything I wanted to do.
Bob Geldof made my day today, and made it even more unforgettable than it already was.
Congratulations to my mum for graduating, and to everybody else who has too.
