David Ambrose (with Lesley-Ann Jones) - How To Be A Rock Star

01/24/2021

The long awaited autobiography from the former EMI head of A&R David Ambrose is nothing short of an epic read chronicling not only his life, but also his adventures within music. It tells of how he survived the Swinging Sixties in the company of the greats - Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac to name one - playing in bands such as Shotgun Express with Rod Stewart - and how he went through the seventies and eighties, discovering bands without which, the music industry would not be as it is today - the famed Sex Pistols and Duran Duran to name but a few.

It is a gripping read, beguilingly moreish and enormously enjoyable with a telltale trail of acclaimed author and music journalist Lesley-Ann Jones' genius sprinkled throughout. The whole thing is a real case of you've got to read it to believe it -  it is the combined work of David Ambrose and Lesley-Ann Jones that makes this the ultimate memoir, and, as the title suggests, the only guide which you will need to live the life of a rockstar, both sides of the music - making it and making people make it, albeit you will be living the life through the words and experiences of Ambrose, because one could not fathom living the kind of life that he has so far.

If you have a thirst to read about it all through the words of somebody who has been at the sides of some of history's greatest musicians, then I cannot recommend this book enough. If, when reading a book, you want to laugh at the highs and sob at the lows, then I implore you to read How To Be A Rock Star by David Ambrose with Lesley-Ann Jones. You won't regret it.
