Classic Queen at the Cavern Club

The gig last night at the Cavern Club, where Cavern Pub regulars Dr. Strangelove played a set as Classic Queen, was immense. It is easy to forget how many people love the music of Queen, but last night's show really brought it forward for me and made me remember how great the band and its music is - and also what a great frontman Freddie Mercury was.
The show must go on, indeed.
The atmosphere created by the band was awesome, even if the crowd wasn't too enthusiastic until the encore: which featured hits like Radio GaGa and We Will Rock You. The vocalist, Matthew Vaggers - whilst not looking quite like the iconic frontman - has an incredible voice, and tries to mimic the actions of Mercury during such performances as 1986's Queen Live at Wembley.
The band deafened me - they were incredible and loud - and perhaps it is my fault for standing right beside the speakers all night... but I regret nothing. It was a great vibe, and a good night overall.
The setlist was mostly well picked, though there were a few depressing songs - such as Who Wants To Live Forever. Yes, this is an awesome song, but I would argue that it is not quite the right feeling for a live show. Vaggers bossed it, though.
And finally, it must be mentioned that perhaps the two best songs of the night were 'Bohemian Rhapsody' for the incredible emotion which it brought out in the crowd and the band, and 'The Show Must Go On'. That was just magnificent. I would say that is one of the most difficult Queen songs to play and sing... and the whole band completely slayed it. I was blown away.
What a great night, what a great band, and what a great set.
