Alex James - 'Bit Of A Blur'

04/18/2023

Alex James' recount of his life, and in particular his time with Britpop band Blur, of which he was a founding member and the bass player of, is not well liked on the internet. People have called it boring, and quite frequently have said that it lacks a point.

Well, whilst I do not totally disagree about it lacking a point, I do disagree with it being boring. Alex James has lived an incredible life, and achieved some astounding musical feats too. For example, he was a co-writer for football anthem 'Vindaloo'.

It appears that throughout the work, James has tried to maintain an amount of honesty. A lot of honesty. He acknowledges that he slept around too much, drank too much (though always maintains his golden rule of one day sober a week), and that overall he was too 'free-wheeling'. I do not think that he tried to hide too much, and if he wrote some things to make himself appear as a better man then it is unclear which parts that is. I have not read any works by the other members of Blur, so cannot say whether or not James' recount is an entirely accurate one... however, it was enjoyable, and whilst the incredibly small font in said book hurt my eyes at times, I would without a doubt read it again.
